Dig Safe® is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with New Hampshire public utilities to clearly identify underground facilities throughout the state.
Anyone wishing to complete excavation work (except in emergency situations) is required by law to contact Dig Safe® at 811. You must provide three business days notice. Dig Safe® will notify member utility companies of your proposed excavation projects. In turn, these member utilities will visit your work area and identify and locate underground facilities. There is no charge for this service.
When you call 811, locate crews from utility companies will mark the location of underground utility lines with paint or flags using this universal color code:
- Red – Electric
- Orange – Communications, Telephone/CATV
- Blue – Potable Water
- Green – Sewer/Drainage
- Yellow – Gas/Petroleum Pipe Line
- Purple – Reclaimed Water
